With all the new changes I have been making with diet and exercise, I am realizing that in order to make these changes permanent, I need to change everything about our lifestyle...or at least a lot of it! I have decided that the first place I need to start is to get a mental picture of where I want to end up.
So, I have been thinking about what my dream life would look like if I were the size I wanted to be. What would I do different? How many more activities would I do in a week? What things would become commonplace in my life? I am creating my first draft of my future so that I can start today to live at least parts of that life.
Let me give you a few examples:
I live in an amazing state! I am 10 minutes away from breathtaking views and hiking trails. I have always love the mountains and when I was younger, I loved to hike. There really is no better way to clear your head and feel one with nature then through hiking through the mountains. Presently, hiking is not a reality for me. I have tried a few small ones and even then, I get out of breath easily, my joints hurt and it is exhausting. Hiking isn't so fun when you can hardly breathe. But someday, I want to hike on a weekly basis! So, I'm going to push forward with the small hikes, developing the habit, teaching my kids how fun it is and beginning to transform my first draft into a final draft!
Neighborhood walks with my husband and kids. This is something we used to do, but haven't in a long time. I could give you the excuses and the reasons-but I'll save you from that! I miss it! After dinner now, we all sit at our computers, in front of the tv and well, that isn't very satisfying! So, I am changing that. Tonight, after dinner, I took the kids. We didn't get far, because it was quite warm out, but it was sure nicer than sitting in front of the boob tube!
There are many more little things and just my waking up at 5 every morning to work out, is a new habit that I've come to love! I enjoy the quiet and still morning and doing something for myself that I'll never regret doing! I want to continue this habit for the rest of my life-to one degree or another.
As I finished up week 3 and after going out of town for my little brother's wedding, I didn't lose anything, but I didn't gain either. I'm basically 5 pounds down from the beginning. I still don't feel the difference in my clothes, and I know that I still have a very long road ahead of me.
But let me tell you what I have accomplished:
I have hired and met with a personal trainer twice now.
I have managed to work out every morning, 6 days a week, for 3 solid weeks.
I have cut back on a lot of the binging I used to do
I feel stronger and can go faster and at a greater incline than when I started
For the first time in my life, I know I'm going to succeed!
I don't care how long it takes! I'm only on the first draft and I have a lot of living left to do!
Think about your life. Are you living your best life? Is there anything you wish you were doing instead? If so, create your first draft! Start with the small things--because they lead to the big ones!
